Idea/Segment for Episode 4:

Synthesia: replacing cameras with code

Written By: Samanta Guerrero

INTRODUCTION

Supplies on the Fly’s Quality Assurance/ Training department is using Synthesia— an AI video platform to communicate the latest information to their Sales representatives and Customer Experience agents.

Destiny Orokotan, SOTF’s QA Coach, constructs training videos, labeled ‘Subject: Momentum,’ to outline processes such as Sysco detailed invoicing, Ed Don & Company partial fill orders and deescalating phone conversations.

Orokotan’s manager, Sonya Jones, advised her to use Synthesia for its information sharing components, aiding businesses who lack equipment such as cameras, microphones, and/or space to record these videos.

After a side by side with Orokotan, it is apparent Synthesia is a helpful tool for many in the following fields: Marketing, Product Management, Sales, Academia, Human Resources, etc.

The site provides users the ability to create product demo’s, employee training, explainer, policy update, promotional and marketing videos.

SYNTHESIA RUNDOWN

Our team tried the free version of Synthesia and stated the site is straight-forward and easy to navigate.

A few words were typed and less than a second a draft appeared.

This is the epitome of AI- A limited amount of words are needed to create a fast general outline. For users that struggle with creating a rough draft, Synthesia helps those get started. The complexity of the video depends on the time the user spends and the various layers included.

Orokotan stated she writers her own script using SOFT’s information related to their unique processes. For a more realistic approach, she adds animations to her avatars promoting engaged viewers. Screen recordings are another effective visual component that ensures employees fully grasp the information at hand.

WRAP-UP

Synthesia is an AI video platform founded in 2017 that is being used by Fortune 100 companies to turn text into videos. Before AI, companies like SOTF relied heavily on Skillsoft Percipio— a learning experience platform. Now with the use of Synthesia, these companies are able to create their own educational content in-house.
